It’s too expensive. It’s too time consuming. How do I know if it’s “complete and balanced”? I don’t want my dog eating bones. These are many of the reasons I’ve heard as to why pet parents do not want to feed their dogs a raw diet. I’m here to tell you there’s an answer to every concern! 🙂
Believe it or not, this is not a sponsored Stella and Chewy’s post. You may think it is by time you’re done reading it, but they did not ask me to write this. I decided to write this blog post in hopes of convincing more pet parents to make the raw switch.
Often, when pet parents hear “raw diet”, they automatically think of raw chicken feet and livers, etc. Well, there’s more to raw. The raw diet has evolved and now comes in many forms to help address raw diet concerns. Overall, I just want to see more dogs eating healthier. Feed as much fresh food as you can. That’s the goal plain and simple.
It’s too expensive.
I totally get this one. Because, guess what?! It is. It can be expensive, especially depending on the size and/or amount of dogs that you have. But there are ways around it. With it being summer, many more farmer’s markets are popping up. Use this opportunity to not only get super fresh ingredients, but a farmer’s market is usually much cheaper than the grocery store.
If budget is a concern, don’t let that stop you from feeding as much raw as you can. You can try the Stella and Chewy’s Meal Mixers. You simply add a few morsels into your dog’s kibble at each mealtime. This is an excellent and cheaper way to introduce your dog to a raw diet.
It’s too time consuming.
If you are going to do traditional raw, then yes, it is time consuming. Meal prep sometimes could take me anywhere from 2-4 hours depending on what I was making and how much I was making. If time is your concern, then a freeze-dried raw would be right up your alley. Freeze dried raw food is literally just raw food that has been freeze dried. All you need to do is add a little water, let it sit for a few minutes to rehydrate then voila, you’ve got yourself a raw meal. When I feed Bruce Wayne his freeze dried meals, I’ll usually mix it together, go blow dry my hair and then come back to feed him. You do not need to babysit it or keep mixing it while it rehydrates.
Complete and Balanced.
This literally used to keep me up at night when I first started Bruce Wayne on a raw diet. I was always worried if what I was feeding him would be considered “balanced”. I didn’t want him to lack any vital nutrients. If you are feeding traditional raw, Rodney Habib and Dr. Karen Becker put together a complete and balanced recipe for all us pet parents. (click the video below to watch).
If you want to feed a balanced raw that is pre-made, then the frozen Stella and Chewy’s patties are for you. They come in 10 different proteins to keep picky eaters going back for more. If you’re like me and have a smaller dog or are pressed for time, than the frozen morsels might be a better option. You literally just scoop a few out, wait a few minutes and feed.
I don’t want my dog eating bones.
Completely understandable. Bruce Wayne had a tonsillectomy earlier this year because he had throat issues, so I totally get it. That being said, the bones are still very healthy for dogs and should be fed. If you are worried about feeding the bones, then any of the meals in the Stella and Chewy’s line would be great to try, as they grind the bones down for you. You are still getting the nutritional benefits without the worry.
Ok, so I still haven’t convinced you that you too can feed a raw diet? I have an answer for that too! 😉 Raw coated kibble! Yup, you heard me right. And I bet you can guess who makes it?! Yup, Stella and Chewy’s! This is brand spanking new from Stella and Chewy’s. If you are dead set on not mixing or defrosting any meals, then you might want to give the raw coated kibble a try. Stella and Chewy’s kept their promise of “only adding the good stuff” to their kibble line too. It is baked at a low temperature to keep it as high in nutritional value as possible. Then, right after the baking process, each piece is coated with “raw goodness”. As you can see in the photo below, each piece has a coating that you can literally see coated around the kibble.
If you want to know why I’m so passionate about pet nutrition, I encourage you all to watch the Pet Fooled documentary. In all, we as pet parents need to start feeding our dogs better. No longer will we blindly feed our dogs unhealthy, full of grain meals! Much like we have learned about healthier nutrition for ourselves, there are healthier answers for our dogs now, as well.
Remember how I said this post is not sponsored by Stella and Chewy’s?! It’s still not, however, yes, Bruce Wayne is a Brand Ambassador for them.
