It’s been about 2 weeks since Bruce Wayne had his ViaGen Pets tissue biopsy completed. He’s healed remarkably well. If you did not know he had 4 tissue biopsies, you would not be able to tell looking at his belly.
What Happened After Bruce Wayne’s Biopsies?
After your Veterinarian returns the tissue biopsies to the ViaGen labs, they begin to work their “magic” aka science. The day after my Veterinarian returned Bruce Wayne’s biopsies, I received a call from ViaGen letting me know that Bruce Wayne’s tissue samples looked good and that the ViaGen team was going to start cultivating and multiplying Bruce Wayne’s cells.
About two weeks later, I received another call from ViaGen informing me that they successfully cultured 10.1 million cells from Bruce Wayne’s tissue samples! It still blows my mind that this can be done! I was happy and relieved to know that everything went well. Our ViaGen representative explained that a portion of the cells would stay in their Texas lab, while another portion would be shipped to an out-of-state lab. Why, you may ask? This is a safety precaution. In case of any natural disaster (knock on wood) that should happen to the lab in Texas, I would still have cells safely stored in another location. Honestly, I hadn’t even thought about this until I was told that the cells would be in two different locations, but it makes perfect sense and shows just how much the ViaGen team cares about the safety of your pet’s DNA.
That same day, I received an email with Bruce Wayne’s Certificate of Genetic Preservation (shown below). I’ll be completely honest with you, I can’t even begin to explain these numbers to you. It’s been too long since I’ve taken any sort of biology class. ViaGen explained that these numbers are basically Bruce Wayne’s DNA fingerprint. Should I decide to clone Bruce Wayne in the future, any puppy(s) that is born will have his DNA tested to show that the puppy is a complete clone of Bruce Wayne.
One of the many things I love about the ViaGen process is that the DNA matching is completed through University of California, Davis. You can be assured that the reports are accurate and having it done through a third-party assures pet parents that their cloned dog or cat is a perfect match to their pet.
What Happens Now?
Now, as the pet parent, my part is done. I can now sit back and know that Bruce Wayne’s DNA is being safely stored. Now, I can truly give thought as to when and if I would like to go through with the cloning process. This, I think, is the best part. I get to decide when I am ready for a puppy. Maybe you’re ready now, maybe you’ll be ready in a year or maybe 5 years. The beauty of it is that YOU, the pet parent, get to decide.
If you have been giving any thought to cloning or preserving your dog or cat’s DNA, I would highly suggest to do it NOW! Even though you can still proceed with the process if your pet should pass away, why take that chance?
