One of the first things you should do regardless of whether you adopt, buy or clone a cat or dog is make sure you have a Veterinarian that you can take your new furry best friend to within the first few days of bringing your new pet home. There are many factors that you should consider when you are looking for a Veterinarian, however, I will discuss this is another post. This post is all about the Bruce Wayne cloned puppies FIRST Veterinarian appointment of their own! 🙂
The ViaGen Pets team did an amazing job of taking care of the puppies. Not only were the puppies cared for, but ViaGen Pets also administered the puppies first round of vaccines. In fact, the puppies aren’t even due for any vaccines until they are around 12 weeks old. But just because the puppies didn’t need any vaccines, it didn’t mean that I wasn’t going to take them to get an exam. Almost any shelter, breeder or even ViaGen Pets will advise that you take your puppy to see their Veterinarian within the first few days of bringing them home. Traveling and a new home can be stressful for a new dog or cat, so taking them for an exam will reassure that all is well.
Before the puppies left the ViaGen Pets facility, they were examined by a third-party Veterinarian. Yes, ViaGen Pets does have an on-staff Veterinarian, however, this is just another step that ViaGen Pets takes to assure pet parents that their new pets are healthy and happy. I absolutely loved hearing this! Not that I didn’t trust the ViaGen Pets team, however, it is always good to have a second opinion that isn’t on the same payroll. (That is my theory for anything in life, not just puppy clones.)
When you pick up your puppies or kittens from ViaGen Pets, you will receive a folder of paperwork. You should take all this paperwork with you to your pet’s first Veterinary appointment for your Vet’s office to copy and keep on file. Within the folder, you will receive the puppies “health report card”, Health Certificate and DNA comparison chart (to be discussed in a later post).
I was so excited and anxious for the puppies first Vet visit with Bruce Wayne’s Veterinarian, Dr. Joe Zulty at Essex Middle River Veterinary Center. If you follow us on our Instagram page or our blog, you know how much I love and respect Dr. Zulty. Dr. Zulty was just as curious, anxious and excited as I was about the puppy clones, as he’s very interested in science and technology.
Since the puppies are only 9 weeks old and need to build up their immune system, I was taken back into an exam room almost as soon as I walked in by one of the Vet Tech’s, Marcus. Marcus has often helped me with Bruce Wayne when I go into the office and I always seem to run into him at any events EMRVC attends, so he is a familiar face for Bruce Wayne.
Once in the room, Marcus asked a few general health questions about the puppies. Afterwards, he bought a scale and assistant into the exam room to begin weighing the puppies. I was sure that Clark Kent was going to still be the biggest pup, but I was wrong! Each puppy with the exception of my little Peter Parker weighed the exact same at 2.14 pounds! (Wade Wilson’s scale photo shows a lighter weight, as I snapped the photo before the scale got an accurate read.) Little Peter Parker weighed in at 1.88 pounds.
After each pup was weighed, Marcus was kind enough to trim their little nails for me. I had honestly hoped to get this done at the Vet’s office, as I know there’s no way I could do it myself with their nails being so tiny. If I cut one too short, I probably would have started crying, lol. But, Marcus, being a pro, was able to cut each pup’s nails without any cries or whimpers!
Next, was the dreaded thermometer temperature taking. I felt so bad for the puppies. I don’t think I need to go into details about this, but I am happy to report that each puppy had a normal temperature and there were no concerns.
The Arrival of Dr. Zulty!
I know I’m biased, but I like to think I’m Dr. Zulty’s favorite client! However, I also know that I am also his craziest client! 😉 I could see that Dr. Zulty was excited to see the puppies. Not only from a personal interest, but also from a Veterinarian interest. After all, I have the coolest “science experiment” that he gets to watch grow and monitor.
After talking with Dr. Zulty about how the puppies are doing, Dr. Zulty examined each puppy in depth. Each puppy did great and checked out well and in good health. After talking about the puppies future vaccine schedule, Dr. Zulty asked if it was okay to have some staff members come into the exam room to see the puppies.
What happened next, warmed my heart! When Lauren and the other Vet Techs came into the exam room and walked towards the puppies, Bruce Wayne began to growl and bark at them! It’s like he was protecting his little brothers. 🙂 Another thing that made me extremely happy was that Dr. Zulty said that he’s seen Bruce Wayne many times, but he had never seen him “so happy”. He said Bruce Wayne looked more alert!
After the exam was over, Dr. Zulty asked if we could bring the boys into the back treatment area so that one of the other Veterinarians could see the puppies. As you could guess, they were a hit in the back treatment room. Everyone was gushing over their cuteness and before I went back out into the lobby, we took a group photo of all the boys with Dr. Zulty and his staff.
Overall, the puppies had a successful first Vet visit. While, they didn’t like the thermometer, who can really blame them, they didn’t mind the exam or nail trimmings. We look forward to sharing many more “firsts” for the puppies with you and hope you will continue to travel on this fun and adorable journey with us.
