It’s that time of year …. The PUPPY BOWL! 🙂 Yes, many of us actually watch the Superbowl, but we all know what gets the big ratings …. All the PUPPIES! The Puppy Bowl has been an Animal Planet tradition for years and they are now on their 14th season! Since we now have 3 ½ month old puppies of our own, it is only natural that we create a Puppy Bowl of our own.
How We Created Our Puppy Bowl!
The Field!
Of course, you need a field for the dogs to play on. There are so many options available for you to choose from. You can make your own field: Pinterest is full of DIY ideas with step-by-step guidelines to help you create your perfect field.
Another option is to pick up tablecloth from Amazon or your local Party City store. This option might be best suited for older dogs or dogs that are properly trained, as they are plastic and will probably not hold up against a digging puppy’s nails.
The field that we decided on is a tapestry football field from Amazon. This field fit our size requirements of being 5 feet, offered free prime shipping and at $27.95 was a great deal compared to others online.
Stadium!
One of the hardest parts of a Puppy Bowl is keeping the puppies contained. They are curious little pups that only want to run all around except for where you actually want them to be. It’s not their fault, they are just in sensory overload many times. The easiest way to “contain” your puppies is with a playpen of some sorts. There are an endless amount of playpen options for your Puppy Bowl, however, we used a metal gate playpen draped with a stadium fan backdrop.
Game Day Wear!
Originally, I had planned on dressing the pups in the jerseys of whichever two teams made it to the Superbowl. However, being that they are still puppies, finding a jersey small enough for them was a daunting task. Yes, even the xs size of an authentic nfl dog jersey was too big. While puppies in oversized clothing is adorable, watching puppies run in oversized clothing and falling on their faces isn’t adorable.
My solution? Put our own spin on the Puppy Bowl! Luckily, I had enough Batman and Superman costumes to put each puppy in one and we could have a Batman v. Superman Puppy Bowl! I even had one Batman and one Superman shirt for little Harvey Dent to wear throughout the game.
I guess you could say the “problem” worked out on it’s own.
Meet our Players!
Luckily, we have enough puppies in our pack to split the teams to 2 v. 2. We have 2 Eagles puppy players and 2 Patriots puppy players! For reference, The Others in the Batman costumes are the Eagles players and The Others in the Superman costumes are the Patriots
Eagles Players!
Wade “Angry Bird” Wilson was chosen for the Eagles team because of his speed and determination. Since the Eagles are the underdogs and have a slight chip on their shoulder, this was the perfect team for Wade Wilson!
Peter “Nick Foles” Parker was chosen for the Eagles team because even though all the puppies are the same age, Peter Parker looks the youngest. And being the smallest of the players, I consider him the biggest underdog, which matches the role of Nick Foles perfectly. Don’t be surprised when this little guy surprises you!
Patriots Players!
Clark “Big Boy Gronk” Kent was chosen for the Patriots team because of his large stature, as it reminds me of Rob Gronkowski. No joke, Clark Kent often bullies his way around by randomly knocking over his brothers.
Tony “Pretty Boy Brady” Stark was chosen for the Patriots team because he of his calm, relaxed demeanor. I figured Tony Stark would be a perfect match to resemble the experience and calming factor that Tom Brady brings to the game.
The Ref!
What football game could go on without a referee?! I consider Bruce Wayne the Ed Hochuli of doggie refs with his buff chest! 😉 And unlike the official NFL referees, Bruce Wayne actually favors Nick Foles over Tom Brady, as Bruce Wayne is often spotted playing with Peter Parker the most. Be sure to be on the lookout for any biased calls.;-)
Fan of the Game!
Every great big game has their loyal fan! Each team has a fan that locals know and love. Lucky for us, we have that ONE fan ….. Literally, for both teams! 😉 Harvey Dent, the 5th ViaGen Puppy clone, that went to live with our nearby friend, Kristen, makes for the perfect fan!
Harvey Dent is still a bit smaller than The Others and while Harvey Dent can hold his own, we thought it might be best, given his shy demeanor, that he be the Fan of the Game! It also works out well, as Harvey Dent’s alter-ego is Two Faced. We thought it would be a lot of fun to have Harvey cheering on both teams, depending on who is winning. Be sure to watch for Harvey Dent’s team changes and “special appearance” throughout the Puppy Bowl video.
Our Puppy Bowl!
Without further or due, below is our Puppy Bowl! We hope that you enjoy and that it makes you smile and laugh as much as it did for us to make it.
Lot of thanks to Kristen and Harvey Dent for being such gracious hosts and allowing us to film our 1st Annual Puppy bowl at their house! 🙂
Cutest all star team ever!
Hope there were yummy post game treats for the super performance!
Thanks so much for watching our Puppy Bowl! 🙂 All the pups were exhausted from the event. They came home and slept for hours, lol, but did get some in-game treats. 😉
