Slowly but surely we are making our way down the required vaccine list for the puppies, whom most of you know who I call “The Others”. It feels like it is taking forever and I want nothing more than to take The Others out to play, but being that they are such special cloned pups, I do not want to risk anything and will wait until they are finished their vaccine series before I take them outside. And, not to mention, the weather here in Maryland is cold and rainy right now, so I guess we aren’t missing out on much!
That, being said, off we went, headed back to Essex Middle River Veterinary Center to see our favorite Vet, Dr. Joe Zulty. However, before we went back into the exam room, we were greeted with an amazing surprise! We got to meet Sherry of Wagging Tail Portraits! Sherry had previously hand painted a Christmas ornament of Bruce Wayne and even though she resides in our home state of Maryland, timing kept us from visiting her to pick the ornament up. As coincidence would have it, Sherry is good friends with Dr. Ann Hicks, another Veterinarian of EMRVC, and said she would be visiting Dr. Hicks on the day that I was taking The Others to their vet appointment. She offered to meet us there to drop of the beautiful hand painted ornament of Bruce Wayne. Not only did she bring the ornament of Bruce Wayne, but also surprised me with an amazing hand painted hat of Bruce Wayne! I couldn’t believe how well she captured Bruce Wayne on a hat! If any of you know me, you know that I am obsessed with wearing anything with Bruce Wayne’s fluffy face on it, so this baseball hat is perfect!
After meeting Sherry, we went into our usual exam room and the vet techs began their usual routine. At this point, we know exactly what to expect and it’s pretty much rinse and repeat. 🙂 First, the boys are weighed, then they have their temperature taken and then the vet techs finish with their nail trimmings. (Many thanks to EMRVC for giving The Others courtesy nail trimmings. Every bit of savings helps!)
All the boys are truly growing and healthy pups! They are eating well and gaining weight like little piggies. 🙂 I am happy that all The Others are staying within the same weight of each other.
- Clark Kent – 4 lbs.
- Wade Wilson – 3.9 lbs.
- Tony Stark – 3.8 lbs.
- Peter Parker – 3.4 lbs.
After the Vet techs finished, Dr. Zulty came into exam the boys and give them their next round of vaccines. Dr. Zulty gave each puppy a thorough exam and all checked out well and in good health. We chatted about their activity levels, my desire to switch them over to traditional raw and when I should start brushing their teeth (that’s gonna be fun)!
Once their exams were finished, each puppy received his vaccine. The Others all did great, with the exception of little Peter Parker, he truly does not like needles and always lets out a little yelp.
Since The Others had a reaction to their vaccines last time, we opted to not give them their lyme vaccine and wait to give them their rabies vaccine. After their last vaccine, each puppy had a hard lump under their skin. This stayed for about a week. There were no other side effects such as facial swelling, lethargy or anything of that nature, but the lump under the skin was concern enough to hold off on the other vaccines. Honestly, I’m even up in the air on having them vaccinated for lyme. We do not go hiking deep into any woods and I am a big fan of holistic remedies for fleas and ticks. Bruce Wayne has serious depression side effects from any kind of traditional flea and tick medication, so I’ve always opted for holistic solutions.
*Side Note* If your dog has any side effects from traditional flea and tick medication, I highly recommend you try Bridle & Bone’s fly & tick spray. I first tried it last summer and Bruce Wayne never had any flea or ticks (even though it is a spray for flies and ticks). And I am happy to report that Bruce Wayne did not have any lethargy or depression issues when sprayed on him. Granted, he wasn’t a fan of being sprayed the first few times, but he quickly got used it and didn’t seem to care after a few times.
All in all it was a successful vet trip for The Others with an extra special surprise for me! 🙂 The Others will go back in 3 weeks for their rabies vaccine and then I will personally ask Dr. Zulty to perform a titer test to make sure all puppies are properly vaccinated (more on that to come).
Thanks for following The Others adventures! I can’t wait until our adventures are something other than going to the vet! Their first trip is coming up and we are all headed to Orlando for the Global Pet Expo convention in March! If you are going as well, please let us know, we would love to meet you! As always, if you have any specific questions about cloning or our process with ViaGen Pets, please feel free to reach out to us.
